Job Summary:

Due to our continued expansion with the Laboratory Transformation Project, Vanderbilt Laboratory Services (VLS) is seeking to hire a Pathologists’ Assistant (PA), whom will report to the Team Leader of the Anatomic diagnostic Gross Room Pathology lab, and whom will have responsibilities for providing patient-focused care through the examination of surgical specimens and timely completion of surgical case reports, independently. The Pathology Assistant is responsible for the accurate execution of gross dissection to support microscopic diagnosis and other duties in a manner that complies with all approved protocols. This role requires the ability to deploy utilization of critical thinking and problem solving skills to assure accurate and reliable clinical outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs examination, gross dissection, and documentation of surgical specimens, under supervision of pathologist.

Actively participates in compliance and quality management activities on a daily basis and special projects as indicated.

Assists with special tissue processing (tissue in special fixatives, tissue culture media, selection for culture.

Desired Qualifications:

• ASCP Pathologists’ Assistant Certification

• More than 1 year of diagnostic gross room experience as a Pathologists’ Assistant

Position Shift:

VUMC Diagnostic Anatomic Gross Room Pathology lab, located in Nashville, Tennessee (TN), Full-Time, Monday-Friday, 1st shift, start times vary depending on location, Rotating between MetroCenter and VUH lab locations

Consideration may be given to candidates that can obtain certification within 120 days, in accordance with state guidelines.
