Matheny Medical and Educational Center has a career opportunity available for a Temporary Part Time or Full Time Speech Language Pathologist. This position starts April 2024 and is for a six month period (maternity leave).

Schedule is Monday through Friday. Working hours are 10am-6pm for two days per week and 8am-4pm/9am-5pm three days per week.

Duties of this position include:

  • Documents according to departmental procedures.

  • Conducts accurate assessments using departmental format.

  • Plans, develops, and implements appropriate therapy programs for assigned clients based on assessment results.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of childhood development, specifically speech and language milestones of infants and children.

  • Conducts assessments and treatment programs based on life skills appropriate to the client’s age.

  • Demonstrates ability to implement currently prescribed oral feeding techniques.

  • Utilizes departmental technology during treatment.

  • Demonstrates ability to facilitate optimum interpersonal communication with each client.

  • Works with treatment team members, sharing the results of evaluations and therapeutic outcomes to select goals and objectives consistent with the needs and capabilities of each client.

  • Demonstrates safe handling techniques appropriate to the task, environment, and the individual.

  • Demonstrates an understanding of funding issues involved in prescription of assistive technology equipment.

  • Demonstrates ability to train family members and caregivers to carryover treatment goals.

  • Actively participates in departmental projects, program evaluation and program development.

  • Completes clinic responsibilities effectively.

  • Demonstrates ability to conduct a pre-admission evaluation.

  • Provides diagnostic evaluations, assessment, and treatment of individuals exhibiting communication and swallowing disorders in our Hospital, Group Homes, and Matheny Adult Learning Centers.

  • Delivers effective therapeutic services that are relevant to population served and remains knowledgeable of current techniques.

  • Knowledgeable in low to high technology AAC devices.

  • Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining special equipment needed for patient communication and feeding.

  • Assist in training of families, caregivers, and staff.

  • Complete outpatient communication (AAC) and dysphagia evaluations and treatment through Community Solutions and the Matheny Center of Medicine and Dentistry.

  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education and other professional growth activities.

Position Requirements

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Speech/Language Pathology from an accredited college or university required.

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Applicant must have ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology. Not accepting Clinical Fellowship applications at this time.”

  • New Jersey Speech/Language Pathologist License.
