First Children Services Speech Language Pathologist in Plainfield, New Jersey

Part time position at our First Children School in Plainfield, New JerseyPosition Summary:Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, school-based Speech-Language Pathologists provide prevention, assessment, and remediation services for students who exhibit difficulties in the area of language, speech, voice, feeding, and fluency. These services are designed to help children meet their educational goals.Report To: PrincipalMajor Responsibilities:1. Work cooperatively with school personnel to accomplish the goals and objectives of the IEP.· Attends meetings, such as faculty meetings, special education meetings, and parent-teacher conferences.· Schedules interventions using a variety of service delivery models, including classroom intervention, consultation/collaboration, and pull-out as appropriate to meet students needs in the least restrictive environment.2. Coordinates speech-language services with student services provided by other school personnel.· Other personnel include Teachers, School Psychologists, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Behavior Therapists.3. Maintains records of the speech-language interventions and prepares periodic reports as required.· Keeps daily treatment documentation for each student following therapy session.· Submits progress reports quarterly, which meet local and state requirements.· Completes records for third party reimbursement accurately and in a timely manner as appropriate.· Submits annual reports for students IEP.4. Adheres to established rules, regulations, laws, and appropriate ethical standards.5. Administers formal and informal (on-going and curriculum-based) assessments6. Analyzes and interprets information to make recommendations regarding the need for speech-language services.· Integrates data from a variety of assessment techniques and sources.· Determines the effects of the student’s impairment in regard to accessing the general curriculum· Presents and explains data to IEP team.7. Provides appropriate information in an informal and formal basis regarding speech, language, and hearing programs.· Presents information to school personnel about language disorders as they relate to literacy and interactive communication skills.· Presents information to school personnel about speech disorders (articulation, voice, fluency) and their impact on communication and learning.· Provides information to parents and teachers about speech, language, and hearing development.8. Supervises undergraduate interns, paraprofessionals, volunteers, and other professional (as appropriate).· Evaluates effectiveness of personnel assigned to the speech-language pathologist.· Maintains records regarding personnel supervised.· Cooperates with college/university training programs.· Sponsors professionals during Clinical Fellowship Year.9. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of New Jersey Standard Course of Study in the management of communicative disorders.10. Collaborates/consults with classroom teachers in the management of speech-language disorders.11. Plans evidence-based interventions appropriate for individual students and groups of students.12. Manages the facilities, materials and equipment, including assistive technology, necessary to delivery of services.· Requests adequate facilities, materials, and equipment.· Uses and maintains facilities, materials, and equipment in an optimal manner.· Arranges therapy environment to create optimum learning conditions.· Chooses therapy materials to meet the needs, age, cultural differences and interests of individual students.13. Promotes effective interpersonal relations with students.· Maintains confidentiality of information received· Encourages others to understand and respect those with disabilities.14. Demonstrates knowledge and use of statewide testing procedures.15. Develops appropriate IEPs based on students’ strengths and needs.16. Manages time efficiently.· Submits to the appropriate person(s) and maintains an up-to-date schedule for students therapy.· Completes and submits documentation (ie, IEPs and Progress Reports) to correct person(s) in a timely manner.17. Engages in continuing education and professional growth activates related to speech-language- hearing, and education.· Keeps professional license up to date with proper number of CEUs.18. Provides consultation to parents, teachers and other appropriate school personnel.19. Seeks the assistance of teachers, parents, and others to meet the communication needs of students.20. Consults/communicate with non-school agencies to enhance services.· Requests specific information on individual students receiving services from non-school agencies (ie: clinics, hospitals, physicians, ect.) with signed release of information.· Gathers general information about services offered by non-school agencies.Education and Experience:1. Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university.2. Must have a Department of Education Standard Speech Language Specialist certification.3. Must have an appropriate and active license through the state of New Jersey.4. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.5. Must possess interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships with children and parents/guardians.6. Must display a professional attitude.7. Must possess vision/hearing senses, with or without reasonable accommodation, will enable these senses to function adequately, so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.8. Must possess the ability to be physically mobile, with or without reasonable accommodation, so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.9.
