Atlantic Health System Advanced Pharmacist - Emergency Department (ED) in Summit, New Jersey

Responsibilities:

  • Ownership for controlled substance order, transfer, storage, and record keeping, including monitoring for diversion.

  • Orders and receives non-controlled substance medications.

  • Conducts Omnicell inspections (close to 600 medications) and medication room/area, checks for expirations and recalled medications.

  • Verifies orders and facilitates medication administration for EDs (Union and Summit) as the need arises.

  • Manages the process for crash cart trays, ancillary medication boxes/kits.

  • Attends and participates in codes for all ages, recommends reversal agent therapy when appropriate.

  • Educates emergency department teams on pharmacotherapy.

  • Conducts medication histories for admitted patients and serves as a consultant for any medication related questions and concerns.

  • Focuses on high-risk populations (pediatrics, diabetes) and high-risk medications, ensures appropriate pharmacotherapy and monitoring is in place, and provides counseling to patients, and their families.

  • Reviews and addresses antimicrobial cultures for treat and release patients.

  • Screens for access to medications and works with the patient and their families to obtain appropriate discharged medications.

  • Flexible in working at Summit campus when the need arises.

  • Proactively contributes to the decision-making process and/or the development of patient-centered care plans.

  • Finds mechanisms to optimize medication usage.

  • Participates in quality, safety, and other project work related to the specialized area.

  • Assists in the development of guidelines, policies, and procedures.

    Monday – Friday: 8-hour Shift

    Flexible Start Time 1000-1400, Flexible End Time 1800-2200

    Weekends – As Needed

    Required Qualifications

  • Graduated from an accredited school of pharmacy.

  • BLS/PALS/ACLS certified or certification within the first 3 months of hire

  • Current NJ Board of Pharmacy license

  • At least 1 year of hospital experience

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Has experience in a specialized area (emergency medicine, critical care)

  • PGY1 Pharmacy Residency
